I Hope This Helps!

Austrian premiere! / *** Vox Populi Award at Ann Arbor Film Festival, Staff Pick Art of Impact at DocLands Documentary FF ***

US, 2024, 52 min, English
Directed by: Daniel Freed

Investigative journalist Daniel Freed is convinced that artificial intelligence is going to destroy humanity. He attempts to finance, recruit, and train an army to defeat AI in the coming human-machine war. Ironically, he uses AI chatbot Bard to help him.

Appearing in the blue, furry form it requested, Bard offers Daniel suggestions for funding his anti-AI army, including unconventional ideas such as selling „We Will Not Be Replaced“ cakes.

The film cleverly develops via their office dialogues as they „co-write“ this very documentary - bringing the filmmakers’ current biggest fears about AI to light and often proving them to be true.

By turns satirical, silly, and deadly serious, this innovative take on AI’s place on this planet is as thought-provoking as it is timely.

„An extremely clever take on the AI debate, I Hope This Helps! makes you laugh while laying bare unsettling truths. It’s a timely, genuinely thought-provoking film raising an uneasy chuckle about our unpredictable future.“ - Diego Migliorini
